It’s My Park Day, a twice-a-year volunteer event at Austin’s many parks, is on Saturday. You can volunteer to help beautify, restore, clean up, and more. Here’s what you need to know:
You Still Have Time To Sign Up
It’s My Park Day kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday and runs until noon. Plenty of volunteer spots are still open. Browse your options online and make sure you RSVP. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt, sticker, and access to discounts at spots like Zilker Brewing Co. and Rosen’s Bagel Co.
Events Vary
Volunteer opportunities are located all over the city, so finding a park to help should be easy! You can spread mulch at the Circle C Disc Golf Course, pick up trash at Mabel Davis Park, or fill holes and do other beautifying tasks at Evergreen Cemetery. The options are endless! Restore a trail at Roy G. Guerrero Park, do some planting at Donley Park, or promote responsible pet ownership in Dove Springs!
We’re gathering our City Cast Austin Neighbors to help care for trees, fence lines, and shared park spaces at Givens District Park. If you’re interested in being part of a group that is community-engaged, learn more about City Cast Austin Neighbors!
Your Work Will Have a Big Impact
It’s My Park Day generates roughly $650,000 in volunteer labor for park improvements every year, officials say. In the fall, volunteers completed 177 projects and collected more than 25,000 pounds of trash.
“Every volunteer who spreads mulch, collects trash, or maintains and restores our greenbelts is helping to shape Austin’s green spaces for the better. The energy and care Austinites bring to this day ripple across our neighborhoods all year long,” said Colin Wallis, Austin Parks Foundation CEO.
