Say you find yourself in downtown Austin at rush hour. You find a way out and start heading west. But to what, exactly? Fear not. The Tarrytown neighborhood — just west of MoPac — is ready to welcome you with open arms.
🥤 Hydration Stations
Traffic is stressful, and you’re probably thirsty. Tarrytown has the juice to wet your whistle, be it the nourishing healthy coolness of a JuiceLand smoothie; a cold brew from Mozart’s Coffee Roasters; or a frosty cold one from one of Austin’s only historically recognized dive bars, Deep Eddy Cabaret (there’s no cabaret).
😋 Get Your Snack On
You don’t need to stray from Lake Austin Boulevard to find a wide variety of dining options. For a quick and scrumptious bite, try Pool Burger. If you’re looking for something more upscale, try 68 Degrees for some tasty Italian food. And if lake views sound appetizing, hit up Quince for “global-inspired cuisine” or Hula Hut, a Polynesian/Tex-Mex restaurant that, although it's pretty mediocre, can handle a large group.
🚶 Stuff To Do
There’s obviously more to Tarrytown than just filling your mouth-hole. Swing in for a swim in the cooling spring waters at Deep Eddy Pool (this is why you should always keep a swimsuit and towel in the car), take in the soothing views of the Oyster’s Landing Marina, pick up groceries at the Lake Austin H-E-B, or sift for treasures at Goodwill Central Texas, home of my all-time favorite zip hoodie.
