Keeping up with every single thing on the ballot this election is no small feat. It’s a lot. I don’t blame you if you’ve missed the news that Districts 2, 4, 6, 7, and 10 on Austin City Council are up for reelection this year with all the presidential campaign stuff going on! But I’ve got you:
- Incumbent District 2 City Council member Vanessa Fuentes is up against Robert Reynolds. District 2 represents most of Southeast Austin
- Incumbent District 4 City Council member José “Chito” Vela is facing Monica Guzmán, Louis Herrin, Jim Rabuck, and Eduardo "Lalito" Romero in the race to represent North Central Austin
- Incumbent District 6 City Council member Mackenzie Kelly is up against Krista Laine. District 6 represents parts of Northwest Austin
👋 Two Council Members Are Leaving
District 7 City Council member Leslie Pool and District 10 City Council member Alison Alter are leaving office in January.
Six people are running to replace Pool, who represents North Central Austin:
- Gary Bledsoe, a civil rights attorney
- Pierre Nguyễn, a firefighter, EMT, and U.S. Coast Guard Reservist
- Todd Shaw, a former Austin Energy planning commissioner and engineer
- Edwin Bautista, a planner at a grant manager company
- Mike Siegel, Ground Game Texas co-founder and former Austin City Attorney
- Adam Powell, educator and union organizer
Two people are running for the open District 10 seat, which represents parts of West and Northwest Austin:
- Mark Duchen, a business owner and former campaign manager
- Ashika Ganguly, former legislative director for Texas Rep. John Bucy
