The deadline to register to vote in Texas for the November election is quickly approaching, y’all. Here’s everything you need to know about getting registered and checking your registration:
✏️ Oct. 7 Is the Last Day To Register To Vote.
In Texas, you cannot register to vote online, so getting it done does take a bit of forethought. But I promise it’s pretty easy. You can print out an application, fill it out, and mail it to the Travis County voter registration division at 2433 Ridgepoint Drive. You can also drop off the application at a county tax office.
Applications are available at all Austin public libraries, tax offices, U.S. Postal Service offices, and the state offices for the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Volunteer Deputy Registrars, who are fanned out everywhere this time of year, also have applications. Additionally, you can request an application be sent to you via the Texas Secretary of State website.
💻 Not Sure if You’re Registered? Check Online.
It’s really easy to check if your voter registration is active online. Visit the Texas Secretary of State’s voting website and click “Am I registered?” You’ll need your name, county, date of birth, and your driver’s license number or voter unique identifier number.
🚚 Update Your Registration if You’re New to Town.
If you are a registered Texas voter who moved to Travis County since the last time you voted, you’ll need to change your address. You can update your address and the name associated with your voter registration online up until Oct. 7. After that, you will need to ask for a limited ballot at the polls.
