Welcome to Election Day! If you weren’t one of the more than 460,500 people who voted early in Travis County this year, here’s a handy-dandy guide to the day:
⏱️ You Have 12 Hours Left To Vote.
Polls in Travis County open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Registered voters can vote anywhere you see a “Vote Here/Aqui” sign displayed. You can find a list of polling locations and a map showing live wait times on the Travis County Clerk’s website.
🛑 Stay in Line.
As long as you are in line to vote by 7 p.m., you have the right to vote. If you run into issues, try these:
- Texas Secretary of State helpline: 1-800-252-8683
- Texas Voter Protection helpline: 866-687-8683
- Disability Rights Texas helpline: 1-888-796-8683
🪪 You Need a Form of ID.
To be able to vote, you must bring one of the following:
- Texas driver’s license
- Texas election identification certificate
- Texas personal identification card
- Texas handgun license
- U.S. Military ID card that includes a photographer
- U.S. citizenship certificate that includes a photograph
- U.S. passport
Some supporting forms of identification can be used if you cannot reasonably obtain one of the seven forms of acceptable identification, including a current utility bill or bank statement, among others.
👭 Assistance Is Allowed.
If you need assistance at the polls due to a disability, you can bring a person to help you, or use two election workers. Voters who are physically unable to go inside a polling location without assistance can vote curbside, but call ahead first, at 512-238-8683 or 512-854-4996. You do not have to give proof of your disability.
😌 Patience Is Key.
Local races, ballot propositions, and the U.S. Senate race between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred are expected to be called within a few hours of polls closing. But the presidential race could take days — in 2020, the results took four days. If we have to wait, I have two tips for you: Take solace in our local races being done, and don’t forget to breathe, y’all!
🍕 Don’t Forget Your Freebies!
Make sure you take your “I Voted” sticker to spots around town for free pizza, beer, soup, coffee, donuts, plants, and more.
