In the spirit of college students returning to Austin this month, we’re looking for cheap meals by the University of Texas campus. We found five spots where $10 goes a long way.
🌮 Taco Joint, 2809 San Jacinto Blvd.
If Taco Joint ever shut down, riots would take over Austin. This beloved spot has tacos ranging from $3 to $4.50. And, you can get a huge chicken or beef fajita salad for $9.95. You won’t be able to finish it, seriously.
🍔 Dirty Martin’s, 2808 Guadalupe St.
We adore a deal, and Dirty Martin’s has some pretty great ones. For $10, you can get a cheeseburger and a side on Mondays, a double cheeseburger on Texas toast with a side on Tuesdays, a bacon cheeseburger and a side on Wednesdays, and a chicken sandwich with a side on Fridays. The Thursday special is $1 wings! Cheeseburgers are also $5 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. every day.
🍟 Posse East, 2900 Duval St.
Posse East has delicious bar food. All the appetizers, which include things like chicken nuggets, chili, and mini corn dogs, are all under $10, unless you order the large bowl of guacamole for $12.50. A cheeseburger is $7.25 and sodas are $3. It’s the perfect pick-me-up.
🌯 Armando's Kitchen & Deli, 2400 Rio Grande St.
There’s nothing more sacred than the bond between a college student and their gas station tacos. Head to Armando’s, which is located inside a Shell gas station, and load up on $2.95 bean and cheese tacos, or try out the $9.95 “Frachos,” a concoction of fries topped with queso, your choice of meat, onions, and cilantro.
🍻 Hole in the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe St.
OK, this one’s a drink recommendation, because Hole in the Wall has great happy hour deals. Happy hour runs 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily and includes $4 wells, $3 Shiner and Lone Star beers, $5 Espolon tequila and Tully whiskey, and $10 pitchers.
