What You Should Grill This Labor Day, and Where To Buy It

00:00:00

Labor Day weekend means barbecuing around here. KG BBQ Pitmaster Kareem El-Ghayesh shared his best tips for barbecuing at home with us in honor of the holiday. Why do we trust El-Ghayesh with such a task? Well, he claims to moisturize his mustache with brisket grease for one and also he’s been mastering his barbecue skills for 11 years since moving to Texas from Egypt.

🛒 H-E-B and Costco Are Your Friends

You don’t have to visit a fancy butcher or meat market for your supplies. Head to H-E-B for Angus New York Strip Steak, a beef sirloin tri-tip roast, Hardcore Carnivore Black Beef Seasoning, and to Costco for Australian lamb racks. El-Ghayesh specifically recommended the Mueller H-E-B store’s butcher shop.

“I feel like I should be sponsored by H-E-B at this point. I talk about H-E-B all the time,” he said. The stars, they’re just like us!

🥩 Cook on a Charcoal Grill or a Pellet Smoker

Again, nothing crazy here. Take your tri-tip roast, cover it with your Hardcore Carnivore Black Beef Seasoning, and roast it in the oven until its internal temperature gets to 130 degrees. Then throw it on the grill. The same method works for your lamb, too.

El-Ghayesh’s favorite tool is a charcoal grill, but there’s no shame in using a pellet grill.

“It's a great way for amateurs and beginners to get into the craft of barbecue without having this huge time commitment and without having the inconsistency of a live fire,” he said.

🧂 Dry Rubbing Is Better for Smoking

We don’t need to explain this one.

🫑 Get a Perforated Veggie Pan

Grill some onions and peppers using a perforated pan, AKA a skillet with holes in it. This leads to a nice smokey, charred flavor.

🌮 Don’t Forget About Leftovers

We love this recipe. Fry some breakfast potatoes topped with salt, pepper, and oil. Throw in your leftover meat and add scrambled eggs. Put all of that into a tortilla and top with guacamole and fresh salsa.

Happy grilling, y’all!
