It is so hot. Can you even remember the temperate days March and April gave us?
Figuring out ways to beat the heat is a particularly Texan sport, and the best way to do it is through treats. Popsicles, ice cream, frozen drinks, and more are the best part of living in a sweaty existence through October. Here’s a list of our favorite cold treats as summer kicks into high gear:
🥤 The Best Cold Coffee
🧊 Radio Coffee & Beer’s Vietnamese Iced Coffee
At Radio Coffee & Beer’s East location, 3504 Montopolis Drive, the oat milk Vietnamese iced coffee is the move. A 12 ounce will set you back $7 and comes with house chicory cold brew and condensed oat milk.
🥰 Mercado Sin Nombre’s Horchata Cold Brew
Is it cheating if we’ve already lauded Mercado Sin Nombre, 408 N. Pleasant Valley Road? Oh well! The horchata cold brew ($5.50) is just sweet enough and a real treat on a steamy day. Oh, and arrive early! The spot is getting more popular.
🫗 Fleet Coffee’s iced lattes
Pick a location, any location! Fleet Coffee has three around town and the iced lattes are great at all of them. Try the butterfly latte ($6.25). It comes with lavender syrup!
🍦 The Best Ice Cream
🍨 Anything from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams
Go grab a scoop of Texas Sheet Cake ice cream from Jeni’s on South Congress Avenue and thank us later!
😋 A cone from Sandy’s
At nearly 80 years old, Sandy’s knows how to make an ice cream cone. The iconic spot, located at 603 Barton Springs Road, has small cones starting at $2.79 and you really can’t beat that!
🥄 Gelato from Dolce Neve Gelato
Transport yourself out of this Texas heat with a cup of creamy gelato from one of the city’s Dolce Neve Gelato locations. The custard with lemon zest is delicious!

❄️ The Best Frozens
🥭 A mangonada from Hay Elotes
If you haven’t enjoyed a mangonada from Hay Elotes yet, stop reading this, and go get one right now from one of two locations. They’re fruity, creamy, and so incredibly flavorful.
☕ Frozen Irish coffee from The Dead Rabbit
Need a little coffee with your booze? Sip on a frozen Irish coffee ($18) from The Dead Rabbit, 204 E. Sixth St. It’s a smooth, adult milkshake.
🍊 The orange and cream frozen at Uptown Sports Club
The orange and cream frozen at Uptown Sports Club, 1200 E. Sixth St., is $10, made with ice cream, and worth every cent. You can make it boozy if that’s your jam!
