Thanksgiving is approaching and we’ve got lots to cover. What’s the weather going to be like? What Thanksgiving foods can pets eat? How does one survive this much family time?

Don’t worry! Our Thanksgiving guide answers it all. Here’s what you need to know:

🏃 Headed Out To Trot? Prepare for Cool Temps.

Thanksgiving Day in Austin is going to be beautiful. Temperatures are expected to peak in the mid-60s during the day, and drop into the mid-40s at night, the National Weather Service says. Your turkey trot or family game of football will be nice and sunny, too.

📖 Study up on What You Can Share With Your Pets.

Your cats and dogs are part of the family, so why not let them have a little Thanksgiving dinner plate of their own? A lot of Thanksgiving staples like sweet potatoes, green beans, and turkey are safe for your cat or dog to eat in moderation. But onions, garlic, scallions, raisins, and alcohol are not.

🦃 Don’t Forget to Responsibly Toss Your Meal!

After you’ve eaten as much of your Thanksgiving meal as one can before turning into a green bean casserole, you’ll need to start throwing away what’s left of it. A couple of tips and tricks can help: Keep leftovers for next-day lunches; donate cans, shelf-stable products, and unbruised produce you didn’t use to the food bank; compost what you can, recycle your cooking oil, and take meal leftovers in single-serving containers to an ATX Free Fridge Project location.
