It’s a new month, y’all! Here’s your guide to all things November:

💀 Día de los Muertos Kicks Off the Month.

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is celebrated Nov. 1-2. Altars filled with colorful flowers, photos, food, and trinkets are put out to welcome the spirits of passed on family members and friends. Austin Vida has a really great list of all the ways you can celebrate the holiday in Austin. We also talked about it on the podcast!

🕠 Daylight Savings Time Ends on Nov. 3.

Clocks will roll back one hour at 2 a.m. on Nov. 3. While we’ll gain an extra hour of sleep that morning, the time change also means days will get darker sooner. Plus, with the looming election we’re a little anxious! But there’s plenty to do this month to combat the fall scaries.

How we're combatting the fall scaries this month!

📚 Big Events and Festivals Are Continuing.

Just because Austin City Limits Music Festival is over, doesn’t mean we’re done with big gatherings in Austin! Mark your calendars:

🌟Celebrate Austin’s Native American Communities.

The annual Austin Powwow, where Native American communities from all over the country convene in Austin to dance, and sing, is on Nov. 23 and open to everyone. Go marvel at the dances, which are based on ancient traditions, and shop the Native Market! The Powwow is at the Travis County Expo Center on Nov. 23. Adult tickets are $7.

🦃 Try To Zero Waste Your Thanksgiving Meal.

The city’s tips on making your meal zero waste include: Being a mindful shopper, avoiding one-time use cutlery and plates, using cloth napkins, and composting turkey bones, fat, food scraps, and leftovers in your green, city-issued composting bin.
