Welcome to February! Here’s your itinerary for the month:

🎉 It’s Black History Month

February is Black History Month and the George Washington Carver Museum, Cultural, and Genealogy Center has programming all month long. The celebration kicks off on Feb. 7 with the museum’s Solar Saturday: Black History Month Kick-Off Block Party from noon to 6 p.m.

🐶 Never Mind the Super Bowl. We’re Going to the Puppy Bowl!

Austin Humane Society’s 19th annual Puppy Bowl is on Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the organization’s shelter, 124 W. Anderson Lane. The event includes puppy races, the opportunity to adopt a furry friend, and fun food.

💋 Don’t Forget Valentine’s Day

I happen to love Valentine’s Day. An excuse to eat chocolate and wear pink and red? Sign me up! Austin has a lot of great events if you’re still trying to figure out what you’re going to do on Valentine’s Day. You could picnic, go to a fancy shmancy dinner, or see some art.

🗳️ Early Voting Starts Feb. 17

Early voting for Texas’ March 3 primary election starts Feb. 17 and runs through Feb. 27. In Travis County, you can vote anywhere that has a “Vote Here/Aqui” sign out front. Hours for early voting can be found on the Travis County Clerk’s website, along with a map of voting sites.

🏀 February Is a Big Sports Month

So, so much is happening in the world of sports this month in Austin. Here’s what you can’t miss:

  • The Austin Marathon and Half Marathon falls on Feb. 15 this year. The event tends to take over much of downtown.
  • The San Antonio Spurs will play two games at The Moody Center – on Feb. 19 and 21 — against the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings, respectively. Tickets start around $70.
  • The ATX Open runs Feb. 21 through March 1 at the Westwood Country Club, near Mount Bonnell. The event is Austin’s only professional tour-level tennis tournament.
  • Tickets to watch The University of Texas at Austin's Women's Basketball team are still available for two games this month at the Moody Center.
