Are y’all ready for August? It’s a big month! We’ve got college students returning to town, it’s the hottest month of the year, and all kinds of fun stuff to do. Let’s get into it:
🏊 It’s Your Last Chance for Summer
That headline might be a little dramatic, but so many fun summer activities come to an end after this month. Enjoy dinosaurs at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, classic movies at Paramount Theatre, purple martin parties in Round Rock, a free musical in Zilker Park, and The Drop-In summer concert series at the Long Center before it’s too late!
🎸 Blues on the Green Returns to Zilker Park
Blues on the Green, the city’s free, annual concert in Zilker Park, will run Aug. 5-6 and feature Chaparelle, Bob Schneider, and Antone’s 50th Allstars with Ruthie Foster, Sue Foley, and the Peterson Brothers, among others.
💰 Stock Up on School Supplies During Tax-Free Weekend
The state’s tax-free weekend starts Aug. 8 and runs through midnight on Aug. 10. Not sure what will be tax-free? The Texas comptroller has many lists to help, but think items like binders, crayons, notebooks, markers, folders, and glue.
🏳️🌈 It’s Austin Pride Month!
You know we have to keep our weird persona going here in Austin. So why not have Pride Month in August instead of June, the nationally recognized month for Pride? The city’s parade and festival is on Aug. 23 at Fiesta Gardens.
🏈 UT Football Is Back
The University of Texas at Austin football team will take on Ohio State University in the first game of the season on Aug. 30. You’ll have to wait until September for the team’s first home game, but a game is a game! Texas Fight!
