South by Southwest is here and it’s huge – the sprawling festival includes panels, pop-ups, music showcases, parties, movie premieres, free food, free drinks, and honestly more fun than you can possibly fit into your schedule. Here’s our best tips for enjoying the fest, whether you have a badge or not:
⏰ Earlier Is Better.
No matter what you’re attending – a free event or one where you need an official SXSW badge – arriving early is the move. Most events are first come, first served, and you want to be first!
📚 Pack a Book.
Since you’ll be arriving at your destination early, you’re going to want to bring something to do while you wait in line. We recommend bringing your current read to help pass the time.
✅ RSVP for Everything.
RSVPing for everything that piques your interest means you’ll always have something to do, and is especially helpful if your top choice is full or the line is too long.
👟 Wear Comfy Shoes and Layers.
SXSW involves a lot of hiking around downtown, so it’s wise to wear your comfiest footwear. Opting for a light jacket will come in handy, too, in case the space you’re in has the AC cranked up or if temperatures change!
🔔 Set an Alarm for SXXpress Passes.
If you have a SXSW platinum, interactive, music, or film & TV badge, you can request a SXXpress Pass, which lets you skip the line. Passes can be requested two days before an event for platinum badges, and one day before for everyone else.
🚕 Don’t Drive.
Nothing says “I’m doing SXSW wrong,” like trying to find a parking spot downtown. Use public transportation! Book a ride-share! Walk! Bike! Anything is better than further clogging up downtown with your vehicle.
🎫 You Can Buy Tickets to Movies.
Even if you don’t have a badge or wristband, you can still attend a SXSW movie premiere. The festival has tickets for purchase for some screenings.
👋 Happy SXSW-ing, y’all! We’ll see you out there!
