The sweltering days of an Austin summer may lead to an activity rut. Who can think of anything to do when it’s so hot outside? We’ve got some ideas to keep your summer plans fresh and air conditioned:
🖼️ Any Museum Will Do
Despite its reputation of not being a museum city, Austin has a pretty great selection of museums to visit.
- Try a classic spot like Mexic-Arte Museum, Thinkery, Blanton Museum of Art, Bullock Texas State History Museum, Texas Science & Natural History Museum, or the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Museum.
- For something a little weird, check out: Wonderspaces Austin, the recently opened Balloon Museum, Museum of the Weird, Museum of Illusions, Texas Toy Museum and Arcade, or the Museum of Human Achievement.
- If history is your jam, try the LBJ Presidential Library or the Neill-Cochran House Museum.
🛼 Try a New Sport
Been wanting to try laser tag? What about bowling? Now is the time! Go bask in the air conditioning while doing a fun activity.
- Visit Blazer Tag Adventure Center in South Austin for the most fun laser tag sessions you’ll ever have!
- Go roller skate at Austin Roller Rink near Manchaca or Pins & Wheels At Playland in North Austin.
- Highland Lanes in North Austin is one of the last old-school bowling alleys in the area. It is absolutely worth a visit!
🍿 Go on a Movie Spree
This one is a no-brainer. Obviously you should go sit in a dark, cold room while eating snacks and watching a movie. You don’t have to go to a typical theater for this, either.
- Watch your old favorites at Hyperreal Film Club.
- See the classic and the weird at Austin Film Society.
- Pick something new at Violet Crown Austin.
- Try Paramount Theatre’s Summer Classic Film Series.
