We couldn’t let this year end without discussing some of our favorite moments! Indulge us:
“I was absolutely tickled by City Cast Austin’s Halloween switcheroo, which showcased our tiny team’s creativity, humor, Photoshopping skills, and ability to connect with the supernatural. Kelsey hosted the podcast, and Nikki wrote a charming, hyper-local guide to Halloween, while sharing her love for Kelsey’s dog, Malcolm.
Another favorite: As a testament to how deeply we care about local news, City Cast Austin interviewed each of the five people who campaigned to be Austin’s mayor, and ran snippets of the interviews in Hey Austin.”
-Eva Ruth Moravec, City Cast Austin Executive Producer

“Having our first interview be with Mayor Kirk Watson was one of my favorite moments of the year. It was a perfect handoff from my previous job at city hall to joining City Cast Austin. Sitting across from him and casually chatting in a conference room that’d I’d been in many times, for completely different reasons, was surreal and special. It was a real time transition into my dream job.
Another favorite I HAVE to mention is our company dinner and hosting our launch party at Tecovas. We got to meet our HQ team, our Houston show mates, AND my friends came and played great music! An epic event that I won’t forget!”
-Nikki DaVaughn, City Cast Austin Host

“In October, we had a team outing to Esther's Follies. After attending Esther's Follies with folks visiting my family when I was a teenager, I wrote it off as something only for tourists. But this time, I was pleasantly reminded why Esther's Follies is truly a gem. The show is scathing, timely, and infectiously funny. It was only made better by sharing looks of genuine shock during the magic tricks with the rest of the City Cast Austin team.”
-Rishi Bajekal, City Cast Austin Producer
“Am I allowed to say that recording every Friday News Roundup episode of the podcast is my favorite memory from this year? I think yes! I loved honing my podcasting skills with Nikki, Eva Ruth, and Rishi. Our Friday episodes never feel like work, and I know that’s cheesy to say, but I mean it. Rounding up the big stories of each week also felt like doing important community work. If you listen to just one City Cast Austin podcast episode, I highly recommend making it a Friday News Roundup!”
