Yes, the Olympics comes with feats of athleticism and record breaking and patriotism. But I almost want to declare the opening ceremony to be my favorite part of the whole shabang. It’s got pomp and circumstance and is really an adorable tradition.
The opening ceremony for the Paris Olympics starts at 12:30 p.m. and will involve a boat parade on the River Seine, the Eiffel Tower, and last roughly four hours. Here’s where to catch the ceremony somewhere other than your couch:
🎥 See the Opening Ceremony in IMAX at Bullock Texas State History Museum
This one sounds actually incredible. Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 Congress Ave., is airing the ceremony in its IMAX theater. Can you imagine seeing American athletes on a huge screen?! Tickets are $20 for adults and $17 for kids.
🌭 Watch With a Hot Dog at Lavaca Street Bar
Lavaca Street Bar’s South Lamar location, 3121 South Lamar Blvd., is opening early to air the opening ceremony. Hot dogs and corn dogs will be available and what is more American than that?
🐯 Easy Tiger Is Celebrating With an Extended Happy Hour
Easy Tiger is showing the opening ceremony at both of its locations, at The Linc and on South Lamar. The restaurant’s $5 happy hour will be extended until closing time in honor of the ceremony. That means bratwurst, pretzels, and beers on the cheap!
🍷 Try the Patriotic Wine Flight at Vacancy Brewing
Vacancy Brewing, 415 East St. Elmo Road, is hosting a watch party in collaboration with ATX TV Festival. The party will include drink specials, including a red, white, and blue wine flight. If you go, please report back on what blue wine is!
🍻 Olympics = Beer Deals at Independence Brewing
I can’t think of a better time to be named “Independence Brewing” than during the Olympics. The brewery is offering $3 pours of its Native Light draft beer on opening ceremony night and during U.S. events throughout the Games.
