It’s tailgating season, y’all. The Longhorns play the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks at home tomorrow at 7 p.m. (By the way: Arch Manning is starting as quarterback, as Quinn Ewers is out due to an abdominal strain injury that happened during last week’s game.) Here’s our best tailgating tips:

🚗 Park and Walk to Your Tailgating Spot.

Parking is miserable no matter what. We recommend parking a little farther out and walking to your destination to make it easier on yourself. Try finding a spot in one of the state parking garages that surround the Texas capitol building – but be prepared to spend $25 or $50.

🚌 Take Advantage of This Shuttle.

You can also park in the lots at 701 West 51st St. for $10 a space on Game Day. The lot is specifically for those with RVs or oversized vehicles, but we recommend taking advantage of it and the shuttle that is provided to and from the stadium two hours before the game starts and one hour after it ends. Rumor has it that this is where opposing teams have been tailgating, so definitely show up to tailgate here in your burnt orange! 😉

🤑 Contribute!

If you go to a tailgate empty handed, make sure you leave a tip or donation to whoever is throwing that tailgate, whether it’s a nonprofit on-campus or a group on state grounds. It’s the polite, Texan way, y’all.

🏛️ You Can’t Tailgate on the Capitol Mall.

The amount of spaces available for tailgating has shrunk dramatically over the years with the creation of the Texas Capitol Mall. Areas that used to just be parking lots are now home to new buildings. All of this is to say: You can’t tailgate on the Capitol Mall. But don’t worry, there are tons of other options like Texas Athletics on campus, Scholz Garten, and more.

🧴 Drink Water. Wear Sunscreen.

Hello, yes, your mother wanted us to add this tip. With high temperatures in the 90s and sunny skies this weekend, slather on that sunscreen and make sure you’re drinking water in between all those beers!
