Buckle up, Austin! March is here, and it’s our time to shine. South by Southwest attracts more than 500,000 visitors to town, and the pollen will be coming out to play, too. Here’s how to make March magnificent:
🌆 Get out There.
There’s something for every Austinite this March, from Irish-inspired fun at Patty’s Pop-up, to great music at the Sips & Sounds Music Festival, and Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion 2025 (have you seen the lineup?), to sports with the Texas women’s basketball team competing in March Madness and Austin FC home games.
🚘 Pre-Plan Transportation.
Plan your route to avoid street closures, and expect trips to take longer pretty much anywhere. Take public transportation when you can — but first, download CapMetro’s new app and be ready to use its new tap-to-pay system. And, flyers, beware: You can expect AUS to be mobbed, too.
🛍️ Spring Clean (and Refill) Your Closet.
Do a little closet edit to make room for the gems you’ll find at the Time Travelers Vintage Expo on March 29, at the Palmer Event Center. It’s a traveling “retro wonderland,” with vintage clothing, home goods, retro-inspired handmade and more, that you can peruse for $10 presale or $12 day-of.
♀️ Celebrate Texas Women.
Bring the kids to H-E-B Free First Sunday at the Bullock Texas State History Museum on March 2 for hands-on experiments that commemorate women’s contributions to science, technology, engineering, and math. On March 27, attend The University of Texas at Austin’s first-ever Women’s History Month Celebration, with Longhorn speakers and student performers.
🤧 Prepare for the Great Pollination.
Ain’t no pollen party like a Central Texas pollen party, ‘cause a Central Texas pollen party don’t stop. Austin’s trees, especially oaks, dust the city in yellow this time of year. Prepare your home and yourself now with over-the-counter medicine, local honey, and/or prayers.
