June is here and with it comes summer fun, holidays, parties, and too much heat! Here’s what you need to know for the month:

🏳️‍🌈 It’s National Pride Month

National Pride Month takes place this month in honor of the Stonewall Uprising of June 1969, when fights broke out after police raided the New York City gay bar the Stonewall Inn and set the country’s gay rights movement in motion. While Austin’s Pride Month isn’t until August, plenty of fun events are still happening now. Mark your calendars:

👙 Swimming Season Is Officially Upon Us

With hot temperatures that are only going to get hotter, you’ll be happy you live in Austin this summer. Most city pools and splash pads will be open by June 9 and some don’t charge entry fees! Important tips to remember while you’re cooling off: Stay in the shade, reapply sunscreen every two hours, and stay hydrated.

📅 Make Your Juneteenth Plans

Juneteenth, which celebrates the day the country’s last enslaved people in Galveston were told of their freedom two years after Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, is on June 19. You don’t have to wait that long to celebrate, though! Here’s what we’re looking forward to:

☝️ Don’t Forget Dad

Father’s Day is on June 15. Start your scheming now!

🎉 Get Ready for Fun

You shouldn’t be bored this month. Go see a classic movie at Paramount Theatre for $12, listen to live music for free at the Long Center on Thursday nights, try a film festival or a book festival. You could go to HAAM’s Battle of the Bands, eat a bunch of burgers, or run a nighttime race.

👋 See y’all out there!
