Happy September, y’all. There’s lots to do this month, so let’s not waste any time!
🏈 It’s Football Season
The University of Texas football season kicked off over the weekend. Our next home game is on Sept. 14 against the University of Texas at San Antonio. Here's this season's football schedule. Looking for all things tailgating? Check out this map.
🎉 September Includes National Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Months runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. Check out Centroamericanto Fest on Sept. 7, and Viva México celebration on Sept. 14. Austin Public Library also has events throughout the month. For more, check out Austin Vida’s Cultura guide.
🍽️ Don’t Forget About Austin Restaurant Weeks
Who doesn’t love a good deal? Austin Restaurant Weeks runs through Sept. 15. Dozens of restaurants are offering special menus, prices, and deals. I’m eyeing the $60 three-course meal at Foreign & Domestic.
🖼️ Austin Museum Day Is This Month
More than 30 museums, historical houses, cemeteries, and gardens will be free-of-charge during Austin Museum Day on Sept. 22. It’s the perfect excuse to visit a spot you haven’t had the chance to yet! Try Mexic-Arte Museum, the Austin Museum of Popular Culture, or the Neill-Cochran House Museum. See the full list of all participating organizations here.
🪩 Festival Season Is Starting
It is actually nuts how many festivals are happening this month. There’s the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival this weekend, the annual Pecan Street Festival Sept. 14-15, and Fantastic Fest stars Sept. 19. That’s just a handful of the festivals to choose from. Our best, general festival tips include: Pack sunscreen, drink water, and wear comfortable shoes.
🎥 It’s the 30th Anniversary of “Dazed and Confused”
We couldn’t have a September guide without mentioning the 30th anniversary of “Dazed and Confused,” a movie directed by Austinite Richard Linklater and starring Austinite Matthew McConaughey. Austin Film Society is hosting an anniversary event on Sept. 28 at Paramount Theatre. You can join the waitlist for tickets online or just watch the movie, which follows a group of Austin teenagers on their last day of high school in the 70s.
