Happy August! Summer is winding down, school supplies are on sale, and it’s Pride Month.

💰 Don’t Forget Tax-Free Weekend

Tax-free weekend runs Aug. 9-11. Most shoes, clothes, and school supplies will be tax-free, as long as you’re buying things less than $100. Yes, that includes online purchases, and no, there’s no limit on how many eligible items you can buy! I’m dreaming of some new fall outfits. 👀

🌈 It’s Finally Pride Month

We like to be a little weird here. Austin’s official Pride Month differs from the national one and starts today. We’re going to be sharing our favorite events, and interviews with queer Austin icons all month.

🏳️‍🌈 Mark Your Calendar for Austin’s Pride Parade and Festival

Austin’s premiere Pride event is the parade on Aug. 10. The parade kicks off at 8 p.m. at the Texas Capitol Building, goes down Congress Avenue, and ends on Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge. The festival starts earlier in the day at 11 a.m. at Fiesta Gardens, and festival tickets start at $10 for kids.

🎒 Thrift Your School Supplies

You don’t have to go broke buying school supplies this year. Visit Austin Creative Reuse, 2005 Wheless Lane, for the craft store’s back-to-school sale starting Aug. 13.

⭐ Where To Go for Free AC

The heat only gets worse in August — last year, there were only two days with highs below 100 degrees. So it’s time to employ our favorite hack: Visiting places for free to enjoy their air conditioning. Spend the day at the Texas Capitol, go to the Blanton Museum of Art on Tuesdays for free, or hang out at the Austin Public Library’s Central Library to read and take in the downtown views.

🏊 Dip Before the Sun

Take advantage of free mornings and nights at Barton Springs Pool. Enter the pool without paying before 8 a.m. and after 8 p.m. Taking in the sunrise or sunset there is highly recommended!
