The holidays tend to generate a lot of waste, including that lovely Christmas tree that seems like old news now.

Getting rid of your tree in a non-harmful way is really easy in Austin.

Starting today, City of Austin curbside customers can leave their trees on the curb during regular collection, the city says. And, whether you’re a curbside customer or not, you can drop your natural trees off at Zilker Park on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4-5 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Make sure your trees are stripped of ornaments, decorations, and lights.

You can also drop off your natural tree at five locations throughout Travis County starting today through Jan. 12, including:

  • West Service Center: 4501 FM 620, Austin, TX 78732
  • Del Valle Adult Softball Complex: 3614 FM 973, Del Valle, TX 78617
  • Northeast Metro Park: 15500 Sun Light Near Way, Pflugerville, TX 78660
  • Citizen Collection Center: 2625 Woodall Dr., Leander, TX 78613
  • East Service Center: 6011 Blue Bluff, Austin, TX 78724

Locations are open 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

You can also recycle your holiday lights, and gift packaging like Styrofoam and cardboard, at Austin’s Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center, at 2514 Business Center Drive.
