A free, daylong music festival that reaches every corner of the city is less than a week away. Here’s what you need to know about this year’s HAAM Day:
🤔 What Is HAAM?
The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians is a local nonprofit providing healthcare for low-income, working artists in town. HAAM helps to provide musicians with access to dental work, doctor visits and prescriptions, psychiatric counseling sessions, eye exams, out-patient procedures, specialist referrals, hearing screenings, basic needs assistance, and more.
🫶 HAAM Day Helps Local Musicians
HAAM Day is an annual festival that raises money to further the organization’s cause. Last year, the organization raised $890,000 through donations and sponsorships.
🎶 The Festival Includes More Than 200 Performances
Performances, of which there are more than 200, start as early as 6 a.m. on Sept. 23 and go as late as 1 a.m. on Sept. 24.
More than 400 musicians will perform at more than 110 venues across the city. Venues include places like H-E-B grocery stores, breweries, apartment complexes, and restaurants.
All of the events are free to attend.
🍽️ Eating, Shopping, and Drinking Also Helps
A number of businesses, including restaurants, shops, and bars, are donating a portion of their profits to HAAM on Sept. 23. For example, BookPeople is donating 10% of its sales on HAAM Day and Amy’s Ice Creams is donating 5% from all of its locations.
💰 How To Fundraise
If you want to do more, you can sign up to fundraise for HAAM. Fundraisers who make $200 by 11:59 p.m. on HAAM Day will be invited to the festival’s after-party on Sept. 30. The organization is promising a special guest, too.
“All we can say is that it’s a Texas-based musician that you won’t want to miss,” officials say. 👀
